Super Nintendo World is currently planned for four parks globally. Leaked models and concept art depict a ride very similar to an attraction that Universal filed a patent for in 2016, featuring a mine cart–style ride vehicle that’s elevated above a coaster track. The wristband, which comes in a variety of designs themed to Nintendo characters, links to a smartphone app and tracks your progress as you collect digital coins and complete activities-including hitting power-up blocks scattered through the land, just like Mario in the video game.Ī third attraction rumored to be part of Super Nintendo World in Orlando is a Donkey Kong–themed roller coaster. The overall park experience will be enhanced by the Power Up Band, which will be sold on its own for about $30.
A second attraction, Yoshi’s Adventure, is a slow-paced train that doubles as a treasure hunt.
The AR headset ups the intensity to make it feel like you’re moving faster than you are while you dodge hazards on the course and (virtually) sling turtle shells at other racers. The main draw is Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, a dark ride that uses augmented reality headsets to enhance your surroundings as you race through Bowser’s Castle. No word on whether or not Donkey Kong will be coming to the other Universal Studios. The Donkey Kong expansion for Super Nintendo Land is planned to open in Universal Studios Japan sometime in 2024. There are two primary rides, both suitable for kids, at Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World that are expected to be replicated in Orlando. Super Nintendo Land will also be a part of Universal’s Epic Universe, a new theme park that is part of the greater Universal Orlando Resort in Florida. Super Nintendo World is expected to bring more family-friendly attractions to Universal’s theme parks, which are slightly more geared toward teens and adults. The land is designed in the spirit of the classic Nintendo games familiar to children of the ‘90s, with bright, two-dimensional-looking scenery, and features characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad. At Universal Studios Japan, guests walk through a green warp pipe and find themselves in Princess Peach’s castle. And like Wizarding World, you can expect it to be an immersive land that’s visually separated from the rest of the park. Super Nintendo World will be one several themed areas in Epic Universe, similar to the Wizarding World lands at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Universal Parks & Resorts What to expect at Super Nintendo World We can see the real track here in the test footage, but the final version would hide the lower, sideways track, and only allow us to see a false track above it.The first Super Nintendo World, at Universal Studios Japan, is now open. The ride vehicles seem to match the patented boom coaster design, and are launched up a quick incline which could simulate jumping over a gap in the track. Two years ago, footage was captured of a sample segment of track being tested off-site, which may be related to this project. Universal patented a technology they call the “Boom Coaster,” where the riders would sit in a mine cart shaped vehicle that appears to run along a regular train track-style track, but in actuality glides along a sideways track that’s hidden beneath.
